ABOUT HOROEKA RISING
I have been immersed in the craft of tattooing since 2010. For me, tattooing is an act of freedom. It can be therapeutic. It can create space for release, connection, and embodiment. It can be ceremony.
This work offers fertile ground for learning, healing, and growth.
Since 2021, I have deepened my practice through dedicated ceremonial work, where preparation, intention, and integration are held with equal importance to the experience itself. I bring this same approach to tattooing.
INTENTIONS & VALUES
The Offering
Intentional tattooing, shaped in the moment
Horoeka Rising is a private studio nestled in the rolling hills of Upper Moutere.
No Wi-Fi. No phone reception. No walk-ins. No distractions. Just open space, fresh air, birdsong, mountain views, and the rhythm of the natural world.
My work is created without digital technology. I draw by hand, often directly onto the body, allowing the design to move naturally with your form.
This process allows for deeper responsiveness, stronger flow, and a truly custom result. It is especially supportive for cover-up work, an area in which I hold extensive experience.
I favour line-based techniques and high-contrast compositions designed to age with integrity. My focus is always on how the tattoo will settle and evolve.
I work with you in the moment. Tuning in, connecting, and creating from what emerges.
Trust and connection are where the work takes shape.
If replication is what you seek, this may not be the right space.
If you are open to genuine collaboration, I look forward to creating with you.
Ceremony
A space to surrender and receive
Like ceremony, receiving a tattoo often asks us to move through discomfort. Within that process there is often transformation.
At Horoeka Rising, I have created a private space in nature where tattooing and ceremony meet , a place to step away from the noise of the outside world, reconnect to yourself, and return to what is essential.
Each experience is shaped around the individual. Time, presence, and genuine attention are at the heart of my practice.
Ceremonial elements can be woven into your session, including:
-
Palo Santo blessing
-
A dedicated sharing space
-
Ceremonial-grade cacao
-
Oracle cards
-
Fire ceremony for release or calling in
-
Agua de Florida grounding
These offerings are available to support deeper presence, reflection, and connection throughout the process.
Marking Life’s Thresholds
Celebration & commemoration
I offer dedicated sessions for tattoos that honour significant transitions. Celebrating new life, commemorating loss, or marking meaningful thresholds.
If this is the nature of your piece, please reach out so we can discuss how best to hold this experience.
My practice is designed as a one-on-one experience.
This allows for containment, focus, and the depth of attention needed to support both the tattooing process and whatever personal journey may unfold within it.
Health & Hygiene
Care for the body is care for the process
The skin is the body’s largest organ, and its condition reflects the way we live and care for ourselves.
The products used at Horoeka Rising are carefully chosen to support skin health while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and safety. In collaboration with Aromaflex Nelson, I work with non-toxic products that protect the skin while effectively eliminating blood-borne pathogens, bacteria, and fungi.
For skin preparation and aftercare, I use kawakawa balm.
I tattoo with carefully selected inks that meet strict international safety standards, including World Famous Tattoo Ink and Dynamic Black, both vegan, ethically produced, and rigorously tested.
The highest level of hygiene and preventing cross-contamination practices are implemented throughout the studio. My experience includes five years with the Tattoo and Piercing Union, alongside comprehensive training in first aid and cross-contamination prevention.
Safety, cleanliness, and informed care are foundational to every session.
